Copyright & Fair Use

How do you think Copyright Laws and the Fair Use Doctrine will affect you as a teacher and your students?

What would happen if the laws were changed and we were not allowed to copy, reproduce documents, and show copyrighted videos, music and pictures in classrooms?

I think that the laws are very difficult and make it hard on teachers. I believe that the laws are already too strict, it I pay for music on iTunes or Zune. I should be able to use it for whatever I want as long as I do not make money off it. I would hate for the laws to become more strict or if they were enforced more.

As teachers we have to set a good example and this is one way in which we can. We need to follow the rules and show our students what they need to do and what rules they need to follow.

As a teacher these laws will make it a little more difficult because I have to remember how much I can use of certain pictures, videos, documents, etc. and it will be hard to keep that all straight. If these laws changed, then there would probably be more people trying to steal things like pictures and videos.

As teachers we want to be able to relate to our students and show them examples of things that they are interested in. With copyright laws it decreases our chances of interacting well with our students. I understand why we have the laws, but if we didn't have to worry about them, it might be easier to teach our students. But I agree with Ashley and we do need to set a good example by abiding to those laws.

I think I would not be able to show videos or other materials that would be better than just talking about things. Some laws will effect the way I teach.

I think that as a teacher i should be able to use any materials for educational use, but i also think i should have to submit my lesson plan and intended use to the proper office to have on record how i will use the materials. copyright laws are in place to protect the people who make their money off that item, but if we use it wrongly we are steeling from the owner; if we purchase the right to use it we are only purchasing it for personal use.

I think that the rules that are set are very fair. teacher sometimes need help with an idea and as a teacher we will be able to copy a great idea with the copyright and fairnesss law. This also give our students the since of what is right and what is not.

I think that the laws in place make it hard for teachers to use materials. 30 seconds of a song isn't much at all if you want to use it in your class. However, we do need to follow the rules because we don't want to get in trouble, but I think it's going to be hard to remember what I can and can't use.

I think that these laws are making it harder for teachers. As a teacher I will want to show my students different things, but I will only be able to show them so much of something, and I will have to remember how much time I have. But it is a law and it is important to show good examples infront of your students.

I think the laws make it harder for teachers to use materials. I understand authors and artists want to keep their work protected, but I feel the laws should be lenient when it comes to teachers. If the laws were to change it would make it even harder on teachers. Children wouldn't see pictures of the material they were learning. It would cause their learning to go down because children learn better when they are able to put the material to a picture.

I think that the copy right laws will definitely affect all teachers. It is important to know what you can and cannot do so that you personally don't get into trouble and so that you can be a good example to your students. It would be a lot harder to find resources if the copy laws were changed and became more strict for teachers. I think planning would take a lot more time and money.

I rely a lot on other sources for information for my projects and papers. If I was not able to reproduce anything even with correct citations, I wouldn't really like them.
I think it is a good idea for teachers to enforce copyright so students get into the habit.

I think that copyright laws may be difficult for people to follow. As a teacher I would want to relate to my students with educational videos, or music that interests them. I do not think that it should be a big deal b/c I am not making a profit off of the music or videos I use.I know I must set a good example and follow the laws.

I think copyright laws are already complicated. We need to be careful as teachers to know what we can and cant use. It would be a negative step if these laws were changed.

I do think that the copy right laws are very strict. However I think that if they were not there no one would ever really receive credit for their work. Being teachers we need to make sure they we follow the rules like everyone else.

I think it would make it more difficult for me to use music, videos, or other things that I would want to use. I understand the reason for copyrighting laws, it just makes the process of getting things done a little more time consuming.
