I dont think copyright and fair use laws will have an effect on What I teach in the classroom, but it may influence How I teach it. If certain material is unavailable, I will have to come up with other ways of presenting the material. If laws are changed it may mean a little extra work on my part, but its really just an opportunity for creativity. I also think that as teachers and role models to our students its important to follow the laws that are in place.

I think, copyright and fair use will affect me everyday and my students in the classroom. Most of the information used in school is copyright information. Teaching is using information and teaching it to the young. Teaching copyright and fair use to students will help them for the rest of their life.

I think that if we weren't able to copy anything, teacher would have to be more creative and think outside of the box more. Students expect to see some of the same things and teachers expect to use things from other people, so not being able to use that would be good and bad. Teachers would have to take more time to plan out lessons and activities. On the good side we wouldn't see a lot of teachers using the same material that's outdated and no use. On the bad side, sometimes teachers don't have the skills to make something as fun as Disney would make it, we would probably need more collaborative thinking among teachers.

I think the copyright laws will effect me as a teacher because I will not be able to use full length material if needed. I do think these are good laws and set fairly. If the laws change and we are not allowed to use any material, I think it will be harder to allow students to view outside sources of information.

Copyright & Fair Use
How do you think Copyright Laws and the Fair Use Doctrine will affect you as a teacher and your students?
What would happen if the laws were changed and we were not allowed to copy, reproduce documents, and show copyrighted videos, music and pictures in classrooms?
